Welcome! I'm André Vargas, a Machine Learning Engineer from Brazil!

I specialise in MLOps, LLMOps and AIOps, building and deploying production-ready ML and AI systems. After graduating in Mechatronics Engineering from Universidade de Brasília (Brazil), with a year abroad at Cardiff University (UK), my career path went from hardware and IoT to Data Science, ML Engineering, MLOps, and now generative and agentic AI.

I'm passionate about studying and consider myself self-taught in many areas. Despite not being a web designer by trade, I built this website from scratch with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, all learned on my own. And yes, I'll proudly point out that I did all of this back before AI coding agents were around to do the heavy lifting! With all the resources we have today, I truly believe we can learn anything we set our minds to.

Feel free to get in touch, I'm always open to new opportunities and collaborations!

Experience
Telefónica Logo

Telefónica is a Spanish multinational and one of the world's largest fixed and mobile telecommunications companies.

GCB Logo

Grupo Casas Bahia is one of Brazil's largest retail companies, with a major e-commerce and physical-store operation.

I worked on the company's AI Platform within the MLOps team, as a Machine Learning Engineer Specialist and then Tech Lead.

  • As Tech Lead, led a team of 5 machine learning engineers, organising and driving projects, epics, KRs, and other initiatives in the development of Grupo Casas Bahia's AI Platform.
  • Supported the migration of analytical datasets and ML pipelines from Azure to GCP (3,500+ processes) within a company-wide modernisation effort, enhancing performance, cost, and governance foundations.
  • Engineered a new end-to-end CI/CD pipeline (Databricks + Airflow + GitHub Actions) for reproducible model and data deployments.
  • Contributed to Cerberus, an internal tool to optimise the company's use of MLflow, improving governance, traceability, and reproducibility across ML models and LLM projects.
  • Designed and built "Sauron", an internal Databricks-based monitoring framework that automates data quality and drift dashboards across dev and prod via asset bundles, cutting manual setup time from hours to minutes.
  • Created a versioning solution for Databricks Genie Agents, enabling a deployment pipeline for Genies and improving governance for the agents team.
  • Monitored and operated 20+ Machine Learning models deployed and orchestrated on Databricks and Google Cloud.
Stefanini Logo

Stefanini is a global IT services and software company headquartered in Brazil.

As a contractor at Banco do Brasil, one of Latin America's largest financial institutions, I built ML solutions in a highly regulated banking environment.

  • Built credit risk models to estimate the probability of asset default, supporting decision-making in portfolio management and regulatory compliance.
  • Developed managerial market projection models to forecast financial trends, enabling strategic planning and business insights for senior stakeholders.
Falconi Logo

Falconi is one of the largest management consulting firms in Brazil.

I worked on consulting projects, building Machine Learning systems that delivered business value in a fast, secure, and scalable way.

  • Designed cloud architecture solutions for ML systems and deployed models to production.
  • Applied MLOps and CI/CD best practices; helped develop Falconi's MLOps stack and deployed its MLflow Server on GCP.
  • Developed supervised and unsupervised ML models for different business problems, plus data apps and libraries to accelerate projects.
SENAI Logo

SENAI is one of Brazil's largest industrial education and applied-technology networks, running institutes that deliver R&D and engineering services to industry.

At its Institute of Technology for Electronics and Automation, I developed technological solutions for a range of industry sectors.

  • Electronics, microcontrollers, and embedded firmware programming.
  • Internet of Things, Industrial Automation, Industry 4.0, and Digital Transformation.
  • Hardware design and prototyping for industrial applications.
